Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the committee on Friday, September 6, 2024, the committee resumed its study of passenger rail service - VIA Rail Canada Inc. incident on August 31, 2024.

The Minister made a statement and, with Arun Thangaraj, answered questions.

Motion

Philip Lawrence moved, — That the committee invite Pablo Rodriguez, former Minister of Transport, to appear before the committee to testify on the VIA Rail Canada Inc. incident of Saturday, August 31, 2024, for an hour minimum.

Debate arose thereon.

By unanimous consent, it was agreed, — That the debate continue during the second hour of the meeting.

At 4:36 p.m., the meeting was suspended.

At 4:41 p.m., the meeting resumed.

Arun Thangaraj, Craig Hutton, Lisa Setlakwe and Stephen Scott answered questions.

Motion

Philip Lawrence moved, — That the committee request the letters and the expectations from the Department of Transport.

By unanimous consent, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to.

Questioning of the witnesses resumed.

By unanimous consent, it was agreed, — That the debate on the motion of Philip Lawrence resume:

That the committee invite Pablo Rodriguez, former Minister of Transport, to appear before the committee to testify on the VIA Rail Canada Inc. incident of Saturday, August 31, 2024, for an hour minimum.

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 11; NAYS: 0.

At 5:34 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
