Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the committee on Thursday, June 13, 2024, the committee commenced its study of changes to capital gains and corresponding measures announced in Budget 2024.

Luc Godbout, Larry Stefanec, Bea Bruske, Silas Xuereb, Jim Stanford and Günter Jochum made statements and, with D.T. Cochrane, answered questions.

At 12:08 p.m., the meeting was suspended.

At 12:09 p.m., the meeting resumed.

Questioning of the witnesses resumed.

The committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to committee business.

Motion

Jasraj Singh Hallan moved, — Given the large workload the committee has on the docket, the committee instructs the chair to book five meetings between Monday, July 8, 2024 and Friday, September 13, 2024 while the House is adjourned, to deal with unfinished business and pressing matters facing Canadians, including the cost-of-living crisis, housing crisis and the impact capital gains tax changes will have on Canadian small businesses.

Debate arose thereon.

It was agreed, — The Clerk and Chair be empowered to publish a news release to launch the pre-budget consultations in advancee of the 2025 Budget process and request submissions with a provisional deadline for the submission of briefs of Friday, August 2, 2024.

At 1:03 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
