Pursuant to the order of reference of Wednesday, June 5, 2024, the committee resumed consideration of Bill C-61, An Act respecting water, source water, drinking water, wastewater and related infrastructure on First Nation lands.

Cody Diabo, Sherri-Lyn Hill and Kelly Carter made statements and, with Greg Frazer and Katie Spillane, answered questions.

At 4:57 p.m., the meeting was suspended.

At 5:08 p.m., the meeting resumed.

The committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to committee business.

Motion

Taylor Bachrach moved, — That:

i. The committee dedicate its meeting on October 24, 2024, to hear from witnesses as part of the committees review of Bill S-16, An Act Respecting the recognition of the Haida Nation and the Council of the Haida Nation;

ii. Any amendments to the bill be submitted no later than 5:00 p.m. EST on October 25, 2024;

iii. Clause-by-clause consideration of the bill start no later than 8:15 a.m. EST on October 31, 2024; and,

iv. That the committee report this bill to the House as soon as possible following the conclusion of clause-by-clause consideration.

Debate arose thereon.

Amendment

Jaime Battiste moved, — That the motion be amended by replacing in paragraph i, the words “October 24” with the words "October 21”; in paragraph ii, the words “October 25” with the words “October 22”; and, in paragraph iii, the words “October 31” with the words “October 24”.

By unanimous consent, it was agreed, — That the amendment of Jaime Battiste be adopted.

By unanimous consent, it was agreed, — That the motion, as amended, be adopted.

The motion, as amended, read as follows:

That:

The committee dedicate its meeting on October 21, 2024, to hear from witnesses as part of the committees review of Bill S-16, An Act Respecting the recognition of the Haida Nation and the Council of the Haida Nation;
