Pursuant to the order of reference of Wednesday, June 5, 2024, the committee commenced consideration of Bill C-353, An Act to provide for the imposition of restrictive measures against foreign hostage takers and those who practice arbitrary detention in state-to-state relations and to make related amendments to the Proceeds of Crime (Money Laundering) and Terrorist Financing Act and the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.

Melissa Lantsman made a statement and answered questions.

At 12:02 p.m., the meeting was suspended.

At 12:07 p.m., the meeting resumed.

Tara Denham made a statement and, with Derek Janhevich, Jeff Robertson, Kati Csaba, Vasken Khabayan and Denis Beaudoin, answered questions.

The committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to committee business.

It was agreed, — That the proposed supplementary budget in the amount of $5,900, for the study of Bill C-353, An Act to provide for the imposition of restrictive measures against foreign hostage takers and those who practice arbitrary detention in state-to-state relations and to make related amendments to the Proceeds of Crime (Money Laundering) and Terrorist Financing Act and the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act, be adopted.

At 12:58 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
