Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the committee on Wednesday, February 2, 2022, the committee resumed its study of environmental and human rights considerations regarding Canadian mining firms abroad.

The committee commenced consideration of a draft report.

At 11:27 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 11:30 a.m., the sitting resumed.

At 11:45 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 11:58 a.m., the sitting resumed in public.

The committee resumed consideration of the following motion:

That the committee adopt the recommendation submitted by Richard Cannings and amended by Arif Virani.

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to on the following recorded division:

YEAS: Brian Masse, Wilson Miao, Simon-Pierre Savard-Tremblay, Terry Sheehan, Arif Virani, Sameer Zuberi — 6;

NAYS: Chandra Arya, Tony Baldinelli, Colin Carrie, Richard Martel, Kyle Seeback — 5.

At 12:02 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:05 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

The committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to committee business.

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the committee undertake a study on the Underused Housing Tax, which has become an unintentional non-tariff trade irritant with Canada's largest trading partner, the United States of America; that this study focus on the Underused Housing Tax impacts on Canadian border communities; that the committee invite relevant departmental officials from Global Affairs Canada and the Department of Finance, as well as United States Congressman Brian Higgins and/or other experts the committee deems relevant; that the committee hold two meetings; and that the committee report its findings and recommendations to the House of Commons.

At 12:12 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
