Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the committee on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, the committee resumed its study of protecting certain Canadian manufacturing sectors against related Chinese imports and measures.

Mehliya Cetinkaya, Flavio Volpe, and Joanna Kyriazis made statements and answered questions.

At 12:17 p.m., the meeting was suspended.

At 12:23 p.m., the meeting resumed in camera.

The committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to committee business.

It was agreed, — That given the United Kingdom took the step of publicly withdrawing from Free Trade agreement negotiations with Canada on January 25, 2024, a move which has impacted the free flow of over $45 billion in trade between Canada and the United Kingdom, the committee undertake a study of no fewer than 3 meetings to examine the reasons behind the collapse in negotiations and the future of Canada-UK trade agreements, and that the committee report its findings to the House.

At 12:39 p.m., the meeting was suspended.

At 12:44 p.m., the meeting resumed.

It was agreed, — That the committee dedicate three meetings on the United States’ nearly doubling of softwood lumber tariffs on Canada and that the committee invite the Minister of International Trade, forestry sector representatives and impacted forestry workers to appear before the committee.

At 12:49 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
