Minutes of Proceedings
Pursuant to Standing Order 75(1), consideration of Clause 1 (short title) and of the Preamble were postponed.
The Chair called Clause 2.
The witnesses answered questions.
The committee commenced its clause-by-clause study of the Bill.
On Clause 2,
Sonia Sidhu moved, — That Bill C-284, in Clause 2, be amended(a) by replacing line 5 on page 2 with the following:
“the prevention and treatment of eye disease, as well as vision rehabilitation, to ensure”
(b) by replacing line 12 on page 2 with the following:
“disease and to vision rehabilitation;”
(c) by replacing line 14 on page 2 with the following:
“eye disease prevention and treatment and on vision rehabilitation;”
(d) by replacing line 17 on page 2 with the following:
“tion to eye disease prevention and treatment and to vision rehabilitation; and”
(e) by replacing line 24 on page 2 with the following:
“to the prevention and treatment of eye disease and to vision rehabilitation, including”

After debate, the question was put on the amendment of Sonia Sidhu and it was agreed to.

(a) by replacing lines 9 to 11 on page 2 of the English version with the following:
“(a) identify the professionals’ needs for training and guidance on the prevention and treatment of eye”
(b) by replacing line 10 on page 2 of the French version with the following:

Debate arose thereon.
Brendan Hanley moved, — That the amendment be amended by replacing the words “professionals’ needs” with the words “needs of health care professionals”.
After debate, the question was put on the subamendment of Brendan Hanley and it was agreed to.
The question was put on the amendment of Luc Thériault, as amended, and it was agreed to.
“(d) ensure that the Minister is able to rapidly examine, in accordance with the Food and Drugs Act, certain applications and submissions in respect of devices and drugs, as those terms are defined in section 2 of that Act, that are intended for use in relation to eye disease, including macular degeneration, cataracts, glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy.”
The question was put on the amendment of Adam van Koeverden and it was agreed to on division.
Clause 2, as amended, carried on division.
On Clause 3,
Adam van Koeverden moved, — That Bill C-284, in Clause 3, be amended by replacing line 1 on page 3 with the following:“3 (1) Within 18 months after the day on which this Act”
The question was put on the amendment of Adam van Koeverden and it was agreed to on division.
