The witnesses made statements and answered questions.
Ryan Williams moved, — That, as Canadians already pay the highest cell phone rates in the world, and Rogers and Bell have indicated increased to cell phone bills of $9, the committee call for two meetings held by February 15th, 2024, one with the CEOs of Rogers, Videotron, and Bell, and the second with the Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, to explain why prices are going up, and that this committee also condemn pricing increases and report back to the house.
Brian Masse moved, — That the motion be amended by adding after the words “Videotron” the following: “Telus”.
By unanimous consent, the motion was withdrawn.
It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108 (2), the committee commence its study on accessibility and affordability of wireless and broadband services in Canada and that the Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry of Canada and officials be invited; that the committee invite the CEOs of Rogers, Videoton, Bell and Telus to appear and that additional meeting time be added for this purpose.
At 1:02 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
