Pursuant to the order of reference of Wednesday, February 28, 2024, the committee resumed consideration of Bill C-354, An Act to amend the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission Act (Quebec’s cultural distinctiveness and French-speaking communities).

Scott Shortliffe and Scott Hutton made statements and, with Rachelle Frenette, answered questions.

Motion

Rachael Thomas moved, — Given the amount of outstanding work at this committee, the committee instruct the chair to schedule five meetings between July 8 and September 13 to address reports that consumers may face higher prices after streaming giants are told to invest $200 million in Canadian film, TV and music, and the impact this will have, the Minister’s outstanding appearance on anti-racism and other matters deemed relevant by the committee.

Debate arose thereon.

Michael Coteau moved, — That the debate be now adjourned.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the committee on Thursday, December 7, 2023, the committee resumed its study of a national forum on the media.

It was agreed, — That the deadline for the submission of written drafting instructions to the analysts for the draft report on the study of a National Forum on the Media be Friday, June 28, 2024.

At 6:29 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
