Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the committee on Monday, January 31, 2022, the committee resumed its study of the Status of the Artist Act and its impact on improving basic working conditions for artists.

Gabriel Pelletier, Mylène Cyr, Sarah J.E. Iley, Jacoba Knaapen, Marie-Christine Morin, Brandon Gonez, and Alexandre Alonso made statements and answered questions.

At 4:38 p.m., pursuant to Standing Order 115(5), it was agreed that the committee continue to sit.

At 4:52 p.m., pursuant to Standing Order 115(5), the sitting was suspended.

At 5:22 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Questioning of the witnesses resumed.

The committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to committee business.

It was agreed, — That, on Wednesday, April 6, 2022, the committee consider the draft report on the challenges related to the recovery of the arts, culture, heritage, and sport sectors, which have been deeply impacted by the COVID‑19 pandemic; the draft report on the impact on local news of Rogers Communications Inc.'s takeover of Shaw Communications; an outline for the draft report on Status of the Artist Act and its impact on improving basic working conditions for artists proposed by the analysts; and that the committee consider matters related to committee business.

ORDERED, — That the analysts provide the clerk of the committee with a copy of the Broadcasting Decision CRTC 2022‑76 for distribution to the committee.

At 5:51 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
