The committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to committee business.

At 11:52 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:27 p.m., the sitting resumed.

It was agreed, — That the committee hold three additional meetings, with four witnesses per meeting, on the consideration of Bill C-18, An Act respecting online communications platforms that make news content available to persons in Canada; that there will be a total of 12 witnesses at those meetings, six of them will be from the Conservative Party, including Meta, four will be from the Liberal Party, one will be from the Bloc Québécois, one will be from the New Democratic Party; that those meetings be scheduled for Friday, October 28, 2022, Tuesday, November 1, 2022, and Friday, November 4, 2022; that the deadline for amendments for Bill C-18 be 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 10, 2022; that the committee begin clause-by-clause consideration of Bill C-18 on Friday, November 18, 2022; that the meeting of Tuesday, November 15, 2022, be convened on the topic of Safe Sport in Canada; and that Pat McLaughlin be invited to appear before the committee, and Bob Nicholson be summoned to appear before the committee on Tuesday, November 15, 2022.

It was agreed, — That the officials from the Department of Canadian Heritage that were responsible for the funding of Laith Marouf be invited to appear before committee regarding the federal funding provided to the Community Media Advocacy Centre by the Department of Canadian Heritage and the Department officials’ handling of the situation; and that the officials appear before the committee following the conclusion of the consideration of Bill C-18, An Act respecting online communications platforms that make news content available to persons in Canada.

It was agreed, — That Meta be invited to appear before the committee on Friday, October 28, 2022, on the consideration of Bill C-18, An Act respecting online communications platforms that make news content available to persons in Canada; and that the updated witness list for Bill C-18 be submitted to the clerk of the committee by 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 26, 2022.

It was agreed, — That the committee send for the following documents from Hockey Canada and the Hockey Canada Foundation: a) minutes of all Board meetings that have taken place since the last minutes were sent to the committee, including in camera minutes, whether in approved or draft form; b) Scott Smith’s employment agreement as amended from the first date until the last date of his employment with Hockey Canada ; c) Scott Smith’s severance agreement; and that all documents be sent to the clerk of the committee by 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 31, 2022.

At 1:14 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
