Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), and the motions adopted by the committee on Monday, June 13, 2022, and Tuesday, September 20, 2022, the committee resumed its study of safe sport in Canada.

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

Motion

Martin Shields moved, — That, in relation to the Committee’s study on Safe Sport in Canada, and given the addressing of an open letter from Fencing for Change Canada to the Minister of Sport regarding allegations of abuse within the Canadian Fencing Federation, the Committee invite members of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Fencing Federation (CFF) to appear before the committee including:

i) Yann Bernard, President CFF;

ii) John French, Vice President CFF;

iii) Brian Ward, CFF Independent Safe Sport Official.

Debate arose thereon.

Amendment

Sébastien Lemire moved, — That the motion be amended by adding after the words “Safe Sport Official" the following: “that the Committee send for minutes of all board meetings that have taken place since Monday, January 1, 2018, including financial records, including in camera minutes, whether in approved or draft form and;

that the adoption of this motion not interfere with previously scheduled meetings for this study”.

After debate, the question was put on the amendment of Sébastien Lemire and it was agreed to.

The motion, as amended, read as follows:

At 5:52 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
