Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), and the motions adopted by the committee on Monday, June 13, 2022, and Tuesday, September 20, 2022, the committee resumed its study of safe sport in Canada.

The committee resumed consideration of a draft report.

At 4:41 p.m., the meeting was suspended.

At 4:47 p.m., the meeting resumed.

At 4:50 p.m., the meeting was suspended.

At 4:52 p.m., the meeting resumed.

It was agreed, — That the draft report, as amended, be adopted.

It was agreed, — That the report be entitled: “Safe Sport in Canada”.

It was agreed, — - That the Chair, clerk and analysts be authorized to make such grammatical and editorial changes as may be necessary without changing the substance of the report.

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 109, the committee request that the government table a comprehensive response to this report.

It was agreed, — That dissenting or supplementary opinions be in Calibri 12-point font, left aligned, single-spaced, and be submitted electronically, in both official languages, to the clerk of the committee, not later than noon on Thursday, June 13, 2024.

ORDERED, — That the Chair present the report to the House.

At 5:05 p.m., the meeting was suspended.

At 5:17 p.m., the meeting resumed in public.

Pursuant to the order of reference of Wednesday, February 28, 2024, the committee commenced consideration of Bill C-354, An Act to amend the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission Act (Quebec’s cultural distinctiveness and French-speaking communities).

Martin Champoux made a statement and answered questions.

Motion

Rachael Thomas moved, — That, Given that,

The CBC receives $1.4 billion from taxpayers;

The CBC holds the rights to broadcast the NHL playoffs;

The CBC chose not to broadcast the Edmonton Oilers game that sent them to the Stanley Cup finals;

The committee calls on the CBC to commit to broadcasting all Stanley Cup final games and report this finding to the House.

Debate arose thereon.

Motion

Michael Coteau moved, — That the motion be amended by adding after the words “to the House” the following: “The CBC will broadcast the final games”.

By unanimous consent, the amendment was withdrawn.

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was negatived on the following recorded division:

YEAS: Niki Ashton, Joël Godin, Philip Lawrence, Rachael Thomas, Kevin Waugh — 5;

NAYS: Michael Coteau, Anju Dhillon, Anna Gainey, Viviane Lapointe, Sébastien Lemire, Taleeb Noormohamed — 6.

Questioning of the witness resumed.

On motion of Taleeb Noormohamed, it was agreed, — That the committee do now adjourn.

At 5:57 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
