Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the committee on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, the committee resumed its study of the protection of freedom of expression.

Karim Bardeesy, Arnaud Bernadet, Raymond J. De Souza, Charles Le Blanc, Nusaiba Al-Azem and Fae Johnstone made statements and answered questions.

Motion

Damien C. Kurek moved, — That the committee report to the House that it calls on the Liberal government’s Privy Council Office to not approve any bonuses, performance pay, or severance package for the outgoing President and Chief Executive Officer of the CBC/Radio-Canada, Catherine Tait.

Debate arose thereon.

At 5:15 p.m., the meeting was suspended.

At 5:18 p.m., the meeting resumed.

The committee resumed consideration of the motion of Damien C. Kurek which read as follows:

That the committee report to the House that it calls on the Liberal government’s Privy Council Office to not approve any bonuses, performance pay, or severance package for the outgoing President and Chief Executive Officer of the CBC/Radio-Canada, Catherine Tait.

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was negatived on the following recorded division:

YEAS: Richard Bragdon, Laila Goodridge, Damien C. Kurek, Lindsay Mathyssen, Kevin Waugh — 5;

NAYS: Martin Champoux, Michael Coteau, Anju Dhillon, Anna Gainey, Tim Louis, Taleeb Noormohamed — 6.

Questioning of the witnesses resumed.
