Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(i) and the motions adopted by the committee on Thursday, September 22, 2022, Tuesday, February 14, 2023, and Tuesday, March 28, 2023, the committee resumed its study of support for the commercialization of intellectual property.

On motion of Dan Mazier, it was agreed, — That the committee once again ask the University of British Columbia and the University of Calgary to provide the written responses requested by the committee during their appearances on Tuesday, March 21, 2023; that the committee once again ask the Department of Industry to provide, in both official languages, the written responses requested by the committee during their appearance on Thursday, March 23, 2023; and that, in both cases, the committee ask for the responses to be provided no later than 4:00 p.m. on Friday, April 28, 2023.

Neil Desai, Anne-Marie Larose and Gilles Herman made statements and, with Christian Laforce, answered questions.

At 12:01 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:03 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Todd Bailey and Serge Buy made statements and answered questions.

On motion of Sébastien Lemire, it was agreed, — That the committee ask the Department of Industry to provide the missing information relative to the question asked by Maxime Blanchette-Joncas to the Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry during the meeting of February 2, 2023, that it do so before Thursday, May 4, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., and that the missing information provided be as follows: i) the number of scholarships granted in English and in French by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) and by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), by university, for the last 20 years; ii) the amount of scholarships granted by the three research granting agencies, by university, for the last 20 years.

Questioning of the witnesses resumed.

At 1:02 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
