Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(i) and the motion adopted by the committee on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, the committee resumed its study of science and research in Canada's Arctic in relation to climate change.

Richard Boudreault, Andrew Derocher and William Quinton made statements and answered questions.

At 12:05 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:55 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

The committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to committee business.

At 1:27 p.m., pursuant to Standing Order 115(5), the sitting was suspended.

At 11:03 a.m. on Thursday, May 23, 2024, the sitting resumed.

It was agreed, — That, recognizing the importance of protecting our environment and the potential of technological advancements in recycling and biodegradability of plastics to reduce waste and emissions; pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(i), the Standing Committee on Science and Research conduct a study on innovation, science, and research in recycling plastics; that the committee devote at least 12 hours to the study and report its findings to the House.

It was agreed, — That, the next study the committee undertakes be the study of innovation, science, and research in recycling plastics.

It was agreed, — That, in relation to the committee’s study of innovation, science, and research in recycling plastics, members be invited to submit their initial lists of proposed witnesses to the clerk no later than Friday, May 31, 2024.

ORDERED, — That the clerk of the committee, in consultation with the Chair, prepare a draft budget respecting the committee's proposed travel to Cambridge Bay, Nunavut, in relation to its study of science and research in Canada’s Arctic in relation to climate change, for consideration by the committee.

At 11:59 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
