Pursuant to Standing Order 81(4), the committee commenced consideration of the Main Estimates 2024-25: Vote 1 under Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, Votes 1 and 5 under Canadian Accessibility Standards Development Organization, Vote 1 under Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety, and Votes 1 and 5 under Department of Employment and Social Development, referred to the committee on Thursday, February 29, 2024.

Minister Khera made a statement and answered questions.

Motion

Mark Gerretsen moved, — That the Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities report to the House the following:

That, given the Leader of the Official Opposition recently met with and toured the trailer of supporters of Diagolon, a group described by the House of Commons as a "Violent Extremist Organization," after having been photographed shaking hands with the leader of that organization, the Committee strongly condemn

a) the white supremacist group Diagolon; and

b) any attempts by Conservative Party politicians to court far-right extremists.

Debate arose thereon.

Motion

Louise Chabot moved, — That the debate be now adjourned.

The question was put on the motion and it was negatived on the following recorded division:

Motion

Rosemarie Falk moved, — That the committee proceed to the appearance of the Minister of Diversity, Inclusion and Persons with Disabilities of Canada to address the failure of the Liberal Government so she can address her government’s failure to deliver the Canada Disability Benefit.

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to on the following recorded division:

YEAS: Louise Chabot, Rosemarie Falk, Michelle Ferreri, Tracy Gray, Kyle Seeback, Bonita Zarrillo — 6;

The committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to committee business.

It was agreed, — That the press release for the submission of briefs in relation to its study on Bill C-322 be approved and released on the committee’s website.
