Pursuant to Standing Order 106(4), the committee commenced consideration of the request by four members of the committee to undertake a study of service standards for employment insurance claims.

Motion

Louise Chabot moved, — That the committee invite the Minister of Families, Children and Social Development and the Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Disability Inclusion for a period of two hours each to appear before the committee no later than February 4, 2022, on the subject of the processing times that exceed the goal of a 30-day service standard for responding to Canadian employment insurance claimants at Service Canada.

Debate arose thereon.

Amendment

Wayne Long moved, — That the motion be amended by replacing the words “the committee invite the Minister of Families, Children and Social Development and the Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Disability Inclusion for a period of two hours each to appear before the committee no later than February 4, 2022” with the words “officials from the Department of Employment and Social Development appear in front of the committee for one hour on January 31, 2022”.

After debate, the question was put on the amendment of Wayne Long and it was agreed to on the following recorded division:

YEAS: Chad Collins, Michael Coteau, Wayne Long, Soraya Martinez Ferrada, Tony Van Bynen, Bonita Zarrillo — 6;

NAYS: Bob Benzen, Louise Chabot, Matt Jeneroux, Stephanie Kusie, Alex Ruff — 5.

The committee resumed consideration of the motion, as amended, of Louise Chabot, — That officials from the Department of Employment and Social Development appear in front of the committee for one hour on January 31, 2022, on the subject of the processing times that exceed the goal of a 30-day service standard for responding to Canadian employment insurance claimants at Service Canada.

The debate continued.

The motion, as amended, read as follows:

That officials from the Department of Employment and Social Development appear in front of the committee for one hour on January 31, 2022, on the subject of the processing times that exceed the goal of a 30-day service standard for responding to Canadian employment insurance claimants at Service Canada.

On motion of Wayne Long, it was agreed, — That the committee do now adjourn.
