Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the committee on Friday, June 2, 2023, the committee commenced its study of Canada Summer Jobs wage subsidy program.

The Minister made a statement and, with Frances McRae, answered questions.

At 12:12 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Questioning of the witnesses resumed.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the committee commenced its study of the housing crisis in Canada.

Motion

Scott Aitchison moved, — That the Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities recognizes Canada is in a housing crisis, and that this motion be reported to the House.

Debate arose thereon.

At 12:19 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:21 p.m., the sitting resumed.

The debate continued.

Amendment

Bonita Zarrillo moved, — That the motion be amended by adding after the words “housing crisis” the following: “that requires urgent action by the federal government to end homelessness”.

The committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to committee business.

It was agreed, — That members submit their prioritized list of witnesses for the study of the implications of artificial intelligence technologies for the Canadian labor force to the clerk no later than 4:00 p.m. on Monday, October 23, 2023.

It was agreed, — That in the context of the study of Bill C-318, An Act to amend the Employment Insurance Act and the Canada Labour Code (adoptive and intended parents), the committee accept the submission of written briefs of no more than 2000 words.

At 12:53 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
