The committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to committee business.

It was agreed, — That the First Report from the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure, which read as follows, be concurred in:

Your subcommittee met on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, to consider the business of the committee and agreed to make the following recommendations:

1. That the committee undertake a comprehensive review of the provisions and operation of the Protection of Communities and Exploited Persons Act, which received Royal Assent on November 6, 2014, as mandated in section 45 the Act; that, due to the sensitive nature of the study, the committee provides adequate mental health support to the witnesses; that the committee hold at least six meetings on this topic; that a report be tabled in the House of Commons; and that the committee request the government table a comprehensive response to the report.

2. That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the committee undertake a study of the government's obligations to victims of crime, including the vacant position of the federal Ombudsman of Victims of Crime and the review of the Canadian Victims Bill of Rights; that the committee hold at least six meetings on this topic; that a report be tabled in the House of Commons; and the committee request the government table a comprehensive response to the report.

At 3:52 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the committee on Tuesday, February 8, 2022, the committee commenced its review of the Protection of Communities and Exploited Persons Act.

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

At 4:42 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:43 p.m., the sitting resumed.

It was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $5,400, for the study of the review of the Protection of Communities and Exploited Persons Act, be adopted.

At 5:44 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
