Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(g), the committee commenced consideration of Report 2, Housing in First Nations Communities, of the 2024 Reports 2 to 4 of the Auditor General of Canada referred to the committee on Tuesday, March 19, 2024.

Karen Hogan, Michel Tremblay and Gina Wilson made statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

Motion

Blake Desjarlais moved, — That the committee invite the Minister of Indigenous Services Canada, Ms. Patty Hajdu, to appear for no less than two hours on the committee’s review of Report 2: Housing in First Nations Communities, from the Auditor General, and that the minister be scheduled to appear within three weeks of this motion.

Debate arose thereon.

Amendment

Brenda Shanahan moved, — That the motion be amended by replacing the words “within three weeks of this motion” with the following “by May 31, 2024”.

The question was put on the amendment and the result of the vote was announced:

YEAS: Valerie Bradford, Chad Collins, Lena Metlege Diab, Brenda Shanahan, Jean Yip — 5;

NAYS: Blake Desjarlais, John Nater, Jamie Schmale, Nathalie Sinclair-Desgagné, Arnold Viersen — 5.

Whereupon, the Chair voted in the negative.

Accordingly, the amendment was negatived.

Debate on the motion of Blake Desjarlais continued.

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to on the following recorded division:
