Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(g), the committee resumed consideration of Report 6, Sustainable Development Technology Canada, of the 2024 Reports 5 to 7 of the Auditor General of Canada referred to the committee on Tuesday, June 4, 2024.

Marta Morgan made a statement and answered questions.

Motion

Rick Perkins moved, — That, in relation to the committees ongoing study of Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC), and given that:

i) former SDTC board member Andrée-Lise Methot received SDTC funding for Cycle Capital investments while she sat on the board of SDTC, despite her being both the founder and beneficial owner of the venture capital firm; and given

ii) Minister Steven Guilbeault previously served as a strategic advisor for Cycle Capital for a decade prior to running for office, and was awarded shares as part of his compensation at Cycle Capital that he continues to hold;

the committee therefore invite Minister Guilbeault to appear, to speak to his past affiliation with the venture capital firm, and whether he’s been involved in any decisions related to SDTC since joining cabinet.

Debate arose thereon.

At 1:06 p.m., the meeting was suspended.

At 1:13 p.m., the meeting resumed.

The question was put on the motion and the result of the vote was announced:

YEAS: Blake Desjarlais, Kelly McCauley, John Nater, Rick Perkins, Nathalie Sinclair-Desgagné — 5;

NAYS: Francis Drouin, Nathaniel Erskine-Smith, Iqra Khalid, Wayne Long, Jean Yip — 5.

Whereupon, the Chair voted in the affirmative.

Accordingly, the motion was agreed to.

Questioning of the witness resumed.

At 1:52 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
