Pursuant to Standing Order 81(4), the committee resumed consideration of the Main Estimates 2023-24: Vote 1 under Canada Post Corporation, Vote 1 under Canada School of Public Service, Vote 1 under Canadian Intergovernmental Conference Secretariat, Vote 1 under Canadian Transportation Accident Investigation and Safety Board, Votes 1 and 5 under Department of Public Works and Government Services, Votes 1 and 5 under National Capital Commission, Vote 1 under Office of the Governor General's Secretary, Vote 1 under Office of the Parliamentary Budget Officer, Vote 1 under Office of Public Sector Integrity Commissioner, Vote 1 under Privy Council Office, Vote 1 under Public Service Commission, Vote 1 under Senate, Votes 1 and 5 under Shared Services Canada and Votes 1, 5, 10, 20, 25, 30 and 35 under Treasury Board Secretariat, referred to the committee on Wednesday, February 15, 2023.

It was agreed, — That, for the purposes of voting on the Main Estimates 2023‑24, votes would be grouped by government department.

The Minister made a statement and, with Sony Perron, Paul Thompson, Simon Page, and Wojo Zielonka, answered questions.

Stephanie Kusie gave notice of the following motion:

That the committee report to the House that, in light of the government’s announcement that it will join the class action lawsuit against McKinsey & Company for their role in the opioid crisis, the committee calls on the government to reform the integrity regime associated with procurement in order to exclude companies that have shown reckless disregard for the health and well‑being of Canadians, and for human rights and the rule of law.

Questioning of the witnesses resumed.

On motion of Gord Johns, it was agreed, — That the Department of Public Works and Government Services provide to the committee the staffing plan around payments and accounts in the federal pay administration, and what concrete steps the minister is taking to support Canada Post to move towards a more sustainable financial model for rural post offices.
